Why Jesus went to the cross, according to the Bible

Why did Jesus go to the cross?

Was it to heal our hurts? Meet our felt needs? Make our life better?

Was it an act of martyrdom under tyranny? An example of selflessness for us to follow? Was He identifying with and representing the lowly and oppressed?

We don’t have to wonder, because God told us why.
